(1)Heaven is eternal and earth everlasting. They can be so just because they do not exist for themselves. And for this reason they can long endure.
(2)Heaven and earth exist for ever. The reason why they exist so long is not that they want to exist; where there is no want, to be and not to be are one.
(1)The sage similarly puts himself behind others; yet it turns out that he comes before others; he completely disregards his own existence, and yet it turns out that his existence is preserved. Is it because they are not selfish that they attain what they attain?
(2)Therefore for the sage the last becomes the first, the out becomes the in. As he is selfless, all become his self.
