Syllabi, All AFS Section Publications, and Best Practice/Case Study Reports Online in Open Folklore

Posted by: Lorraine Cashman

Open Folklore is an online open-access portal to an abundance of folklore-related resources, and the content that it indexes is constantly growing. Many AFS publications are already available, and more will be available soon.

At the moment, you can find the following AFS material using the Open Folklore "Gray Literature" search:

  • All back issues of all AFS Section publications
  • 55 syllabi and teaching materials for the field of folklore studies in the Teaching Resources Collection
  • Annual Meeting Programs (1949-2010) and Reports of AFS Annual Meetings (1889-1948)
  • Best Practice and Case Study Reports (2010-2012), funded by the Folk and Traditional Arts Program of the National Endowment for the Arts
  • Professional Development Publications (2003-2006), sponsored by AFS and the Fund for Folk Culture, with funding from the Folk and Traditional Arts Program of the National Endowment for the Arts.
  • Documents concerning Cultural Policy, the History of U.S. Folklore Studies, Indexes to the Journal of American Folklore, and AFS Member Survey reports.

This material is housed in the IUScholarworks Repository; for help finding items in these collections, see Searching the IUScholarworks Repository for AFS Gray Literature.

When browsing the AFS site, you will find the link to Open Folklore under About AFS/Publications.
